Avington Park is a privately owned stately home in Hampshire, set in 150 acres of historic parkland bordering the River Itchen, perfect for wedding venues. Located just East of Winchester, the home sits nestled in the heart of the Itchen Valley. Once described by William Corbett as ‘one of the prettiest places in the county.’

The backdrop of Avington Park is befitting Royalty, and it is no surprise King Charles II called this place home. With his mistress Nell Gwynn, Avington became the heart of her prestigious party palace, in which the royal court attended. If it is a wedding or private event, indulge in the exclusive use of this luxury Hampshire home and continue the historic tradition of parties here at Avington Park .

The pillared entrance with wrought iron gates makes a grand arrival as your guests make their way down the lime tree avenue. The house and parkland offer a fantastic backdrop for wedding photos, with an impressive portico, with three statues sat looking over the grounds. The lawns located next to the River Itchen provide a picturesque scene for welcome drinks before your reception in the house. The venue provides a choice of rooms to host your ceremony, the ballroom being the most spectacular with gilt plaster work, hand painted masterpieces and vast windows overlooking the rolling parkland. The South facing Orangery makes the perfect reception space able to accommodate larger groups.

History

The history of this stately home can be traced back as far as 961 AD, recorded in the Doomsday book. It was gifted to the Bishop of Winchester by the reigning King. It was used as a priory for the monks of Saint Swithun, before being acquired by King Henry VIII for use by the Royal Court. Portraits of the Tudors and Kings still hang on the walls of this incredible estate. The estate was then passed through multiple royals, including King Charles II after his return from exile. It was saved after its occupation by the army during the second world war by the Hickson family until sold in November 2020. Today the parties still continue.
