Church Wedding Venues

Do you want your religious ceremony and wedding reception to take place at the same location? You should look for a church wedding venue! These wedding venues will either have a church on site or be a church with enough space to host your reception too.

Many couples dream of a church wedding somewhere they have a real connection to; that could be a local church close to where they grew up or went to school, or somewhere that their parents and grandparents married.

Our pick of church wedding venues includes cathedrals, abbeys and former rectories, as well as stately homes, barns and estates with their own churches. There are deconsecrated places of worship that have been turned into spectacular event venues with traditional, historic features.

A church wedding venue is the best of both worlds, because it combines a traditional ceremony with a reception space that you personalise and make your own.

Can I Marry in a Church?

The Church of England website states that, “you can marry in church regardless of your beliefs, whether or not you are christened and whether or not you have been a regular churchgoer.”

There are, however, exceptions to the rules which include same-sex couples, and if one or both of you have been married before (marriage of divorced couples is decided on a case-by-case basis by the vicar). Speak to your local church for more details.

Other denominations, such as Catholic churches and Methodist churches, have their own requirements for marrying in their churches. You can find out more about church wedding ceremony requirements here.

How Do We Find a Church Wedding Venue?

This page is the first place to look, of course! We’ve found some of the most beautiful wedding venues with churches in the UK for you.

If you have a particular venue in mind, speak to the venue manager about what options there are nearby for a church wedding. If you have a specific church in mind, then search the postcode in Hitched to find venues nearby.

How Much Does a Church Wedding Cost?

The basic legal fee for marrying in a Church of England church in 2022 is £512 if you marry in your local parish, and £560 if you marry away from home. This required legal fee is the same for every Church.

Frequently asked questions regarding Church Weddings

Can I celebrate both my ceremony and reception at a church?

If you're looking to celebrate your church wedding and reception or banquet in the same place, some churches may be able to offer event halls for your celebration. That said, typically churches won't have spaces for your reception, so you can use the map view when searching in this category to find nearby venues.
